Simulators, what are they?

A weather forecasting simulator is a type of a learning activity which allows you to practice decision making and test your knowledge in a measured and controlled learning environment. As the name suggests, simulators simulate the operational environment / working environment.

Simulators engage you in complex experiences, often not readily available in reality. Making rare events more common, simulators present you with animated data, a clock running a few times faster than in real time and a number of pre-established tasks.

Simulators can be used for both self-study, as well as in a guided learning experience where discussions can be organised to analyse the experience and discuss outcomes.
