Meteosat 7 WV 6.2 and height of PV=1 unit

At the first time step the PV anomalies are already well defined. The one is over cloud spiral which is connecting with deep cyclone over Denmark and Baltic Sea. The other is over South-east England, at the left side of a dark stripe which is connected with intrusion of the dry stratospheric air and the jet.
The height of PV=1 unit was found at 550 hPa (even under) meaning that stratospheric air has protruded to mid troposphere.

Deepening up to 600 hPa. The anomaly, which was interesting for this case, moves south with stratospheric air found at 600 hPa.

The maximum of height of PV=1 moved to the south. The developing cloud band in the Mediterranean coincides with a high gradient in the PV = 1 height.

Cyclogenesis or the deepening of dry stratospheric air is always accompanied by high values for PV. The first sign in the cloud structure of the cyclogenesis can be seen in the Genoa Bay, just ahead of the PV=1 unit maxima.

As the cloudspiral developed a strong signal in PV can still be observed near or behind.

The similar situation like 6 hours before. The dark area in the satellite image also indicates the presence of the dry, stratospheric air.

A positive anomaly was found in the cold air behind the cloud spiral and negative anomaly in the warm cloud head. The reason for this distribution was big temperature difference.

The anomaly is weakening. Height of PV=1 unit is now found at 450 hPa.

The same value of the anomaly six hour later.

The cloud band moved to the north-east. The height of PV=1 behind the cloud band is found at 400 hPa.

Convective cells, which can be seen much better in the IR image, indicating the convective development by overrunning stratospheric air in the Mediterranean up to 450 or 500 hPa.
Cloud band associated with the cyclone moved further to the north-east with similar values of the height of PV=1 like before (between 300 and 400 hPa).

Again behind the cloud spiral the maxima of PV=1 remained the same.

The situation in the upper and low level is stationary. The maximum of the anomaly moved to the west.
The big black stripe in the WV image almost all around the Europe showed the dry stratospheric air and also indicated the position of the jet.

The center of the cyclone moved further to the north-east. The atmosphere behind, over Austria and Germany, becames drier which can be seen in the WV satellite image (the region becames darker). At the same time the dry stratospheric air overrun down to the 450 hPa.
