Geopotential Height 500 hPa

The upper level low over Denmark and Baltic Sea is clearly behind the corresponding surface low. The main trough extended from North Germany, The Netherlands to South England. Very strong gradient over Ireland, South-west England and North-west France indicates the positon of the jet.

The trough was moving fast to the south-east. The upper level low fit well with cloud spiral over Baltic Sea.

The position of the trough is from the North-east Europe over South France, at the rear side of the surface low.

The parallel and very compact isolines from north accros the Btitish Isles and France to the Mediterranean points out that cold air flowed down to the Mediterranean with large speed. The axis of the trough is just behind the cloud spiral which start to form in the Genoa Bay.

The upper level trough becames more pronounced and was connected with the cloud spiral which is moving to the south.

The second upper level low formed just below the cloud spiral in the Mediterranean.

Almost the whole Europe is under the influence of huge upper level low and several upper level troughs surrounding it. The cloudines is mostly at the leading part of the trough in the strong southerly flow.

The developement of the big upper level low went on.

The upper level low is still behind the surface low and is stationary. There is well-developed frontal cloud band at the leading part of the upper level low. The rearward branch is accompanied by some fibrous cloudiness, but also some convection.

The upper level low becames deeper. The frontal cloud band moved to the north-east.

In the next 6 hours the situation is still unchanged. In the wind field well-developed closed circulation can be seen.

Some structures at the surface, weak low over Hungary, cant be seen at the 500 hPa. The upper level low is still strong and extensive.

There is still stationary situation in the both, low and upper level. The gradient of the isolines is smaller and the flow is weaker.

The upper level low started filling up and the westerly flow over South Mediterranean becames dominant.
