Introduction: A conversation on the Phone - Part 1

On 12 June 2005 at 10h in the morning:

"I am Mrs. Arts from the Open Air Opera in Mörbisch. Tomorrow the 13 June we have our opening of the open air festival at the Neusiedlersee. Can you tell me how the weather will be? The festivity starts at 20 h and the opera at 21 for about three hours and rain or even thundertorms would lead to a cancellation. You know we have several thousand customers."

"Ah Mrs. Arts! I remember you from the last year. Fine, the opera season in Mörbisch starts again.
Let me have a look into my material. Unfortunately tomorrow there is an unstable situation with a high cloud and thunderstrom probability for the afternoon. The probability is less in the east of Austria but cannot be excluded. But it is not possible to say today if, when and exactly where thunderstorms and rain showers will happen. Please contact us tomorrow morning again. Then we will check if the numerical forecast models has changed."

Forecast of surface analysis for 13 June 2006/12.00 UTC

A frontal system reaches west and North Austria at 12 UTC. It Moves eastward. Immediately in front of ot there is a warm and unstable airmass.
